Superheroes That Can Motivate Your Children to Enjoy Science

Children have always loved the idea of being like their favourite superheroes. From the educational point of view, these fictional characters can serve as great motivators when it comes to inciting their curiosity about science.

The list below mentions the characters of scientists that appeared in popular shows for children. All show a zeal to learn, make new discoveries and, most importantly, use science for greater good.

Gadget Hackwrench

This character is one of the members of Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. She is the child prodigy daughter of a famous mouse inventor and scientist Geegaw Hackwrench. One of Gadget’s superpowers is the uncanny ability to invent nearly anything by using a few oddball objects. Her curiosity and fearlessness helps her spot solutions that others often overlook. Also, her uncanny mechanical know-how makes her an invaluable part to the team.

Honey Lemon

Honey appears as a young American woman in the Disney film Big Hero 6, television series and video game Kingdom Hearts III. She is a quirky chemistry whiz who has a kind heart and tries to find something good in everything. Her special skill is to mix different chemical elements in order to make defense mechanisms such as explosives or traps.

Walter Beckett

Walter is a character in the movie Spies in Disguise. He is a kid making weapons and gadgets for the U.S. government after getting a degree from the prestigious M.I.T. (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) at the age of 15. He also makes equipment to help his police officer mother keep safe at work. As an agent, Walter believes in a nonviolent, protective approach. He always stands up for his values even though his unique gadget ideas are sometimes perceived as weird.

Shuri is an exceptional scientist from the Wakanda Kingdom in Marvel's Black Panther. She is the leader of the science division of Wakanda and has a broad expertise in engineering, physics, chemistry, medicine and computer programming.Shuri is a technological genius at heart and expert in working with Vibranium, Wakanda’s rare metal Vibranium, to help advance her home country. She is always willing to innovate in order to improve things she had invented before, believing there's no end to improvement.

Watching these superheroes in action encourages children to change their perception of science and associate the work of a scientist with bravery, resourcefulness and curious nature.
